Ideas for holidays, weekends and trips in Avignon and its surroundings

Avignon is a city which has been classed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and a visit here will soon show you why! Avignon is known as 'the city of Popes', owing to the fact that many popes lived here between the 14th and 15th centuries, making Avignon a very important city.
You will see the city's ramparts as you make your way into the centre, and this prepares you for all the heritage that you are about to discover. Once inside the city, one of the most important buildings in Avignon is the Palais des Papes, a Gothic building which was home to the popes in the 14th and 15th centuries. The most famous piece of architecture is perhaps the pont (bridge) Saint-Bénézet, also known as the pont d'Avignon, which is the subject of a famous song.

The Calvet Museum is full of historic and artistic treasures, including works by Manet and Sisley as well as a collection of artefacts and a display of decorative arts. The cuisine is also an important part of life in Avignon, so make sure to try some of the local dishes such as daube avignonnaise, a type of lamb stew. Enjoy your stay at our Première Classe Avignon Sud - Parc des Expositions!
